 NECKLACES

Necklaces begin in ancient communities with strands of beads or shells. Eventually these rough necklaces evolved into metal of some kind and were often symbols of political position or wealth. Men had more elaborate jewelry than women in the early eras but eventually women begin to wear the more ornate, more expensive and more elaborate arrangements around their necks.

Necklace styles moved with fashion; If the necklines were low, necklaces really became important pieces of art.
