From Women’s Jewelry Association’s New York Metro Chapter, this online program on the “Maker & Muse”. Wednesday, June 24 - 11:00 a.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. EDT

The exhibition, “Maker & Muse,” curated by Elyse Zorn Karlin, celebrates the impact of women on the innovative and imaginative jewelry of the early 1900s. This lecture examines variations in themes, forms, and interests among the English Arts and Crafts movement, French Art Nouveau, the Jugendstil (youth style) of Austria and Germany, and American regional makers in New York and Chicago.

Women are a significant part of this story, not only as the market for jewelry, but as makers and as inspiration. The exhibition is currently at the Frick Museum in Pittsburgh, which is unfortunately closed at the moment due to Covid-19; the exhibition may be extended.

About Elyse Zorn Karlin
Elyse Zorn Karlin is Co-Director of the Association for the Study of Jewelry & Related Arts (ASJRA), and publisher of Adornment Magazine. She is a jewelry historian, author of several books on jewelry and is a freelance curator.

She recently curated “Maker & Muse: Women and 20th Century Art Jewelry” which was at the Richard H. Driehaus Museum, Chicago, and is now traveling to a number of venues. She is curating an upcoming exhibition “Out of this World! Jewelry in the Space Age” which opens at the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, GA, in November 2020.
