Past-Present-Future Contemporary Jewelry Now - MFA/Boston Event

  • Oakland, CA United Ststes of America (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We’re planning to attend this virtual lecture sponsored by the MFA/Boston. Registration is required.

“See you” there.

Past-Present-Future Contemporary Jewelry Now

Join Boston MFA and jewelry aficionados for a conversation with three of the most exciting contemporary artists working in jewelry today. Melanie Bilenker, Tiff Massey, and Mallory Weston create provocative, relevant, and socially engaged work. Each posits adornment not just as aesthetic decoration, but as a vital and urgent means of connecting past to present, and communicating visions of the future through design.

Their work traverses themes of identity, labor, and symbolism, and their practices engage a range of historical and present-day source materials, including a modern take on Victorian mourning jewelry, traditions from the African continent, and pop culture.

Maker and Muse: Women and 20th Century Art Jewelry

From Women’s Jewelry Association’s New York Metro Chapter, this online program on the “Maker & Muse”. Wednesday, June 24 - 11:00 a.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. EDT

The exhibition, “Maker & Muse,” curated by Elyse Zorn Karlin, celebrates the impact of women on the innovative and imaginative jewelry of the early 1900s. This lecture examines variations in themes, forms, and interests among the English Arts and Crafts movement, French Art Nouveau, the Jugendstil (youth style) of Austria and Germany, and American regional makers in New York and Chicago.
